BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS finished fifth and sixth in the final race ahead of the Nürburgring 24 Hour.
The second round of the VLN Endurance Championship was dominated by the typically unsettled Eifel weather. The rain started to fall in qualifying, making the battle for grid positions something of a lottery. BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS was unlucky with the timing of its fastest laps and started the four-hour race from down in 26th place with the number 26 BMW Z4 GT3. The number 25 car was hampered by a puncture, and was consequently forced to start the race from the back of the initial 63-car field. The race commenced on a dry track, with Lucas Luhr, Maxime Martin, Markus Palttala and Richard Westbrook in the number 25 car, and Dirk Adorf, Augusto Farfus and Jörg Müller in the number 26 car wasting no time in working their way up the field. A heavy shower shortly before the halfway point mixed the field up again, but BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS defied the extremely difficult conditions to finish strongly. The number 25 car came home fifth, while car number 26 ended the race in sixth place. The Walkenhorst Motorsport team also fielded two BMW Z4 GT3s. John Edwards shared the driving duties in the number 36 car with Michela Cerruti and Felipe Fernándes Laser. The trio were running in a strong sixth place until just a few laps from the end, but were then forced to retire from the race with a technical problem. The number 35 car failed to finish after being involved in a crash through no fault of its own. Victory in the first race of the BMW M235i Racing Cup class went to Scheid Motorsport’s “Eifelblitz” car. Drivers Uwe Ebertz, Michael Schrey and Jörg Weidinger in the number 666 car came home ahead of the Adrenalin Motorsport and MPB Racing teams in second and third respectively. The field comprised 21 BMW M235i Racings. In total, BMW drivers claimed six class wins at the 40th DMV 4-Hour Race.

New renderings of the BMW 1 Series Sedan surface on the interwebs. The new four-door compact sedan will join the BMW fleet in 2017 as a response to the popular Mercedes-Benz CLA and Audi A3 Sedan. BMW’s 1 Series Sedan has been developed to support front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive and it is built internally under the name NES (New Entry-Level Sedan). It uses the front-wheel drive architecture which will be used in many models by BMW, including the new 2 Series Active Tourer and second generation X1.
Front-wheel drive will be standard, but select variants will be available at an additional cost with an xDrive system. 6-speed manual and 8-speed Steptronic gearboxes willbe offered. BMW aims to bring the 1 Series Sedan to the same proportions as the E46 3 Series with a design featuring the angular and sleek headlights seen on recent BMW cars, which extend into the kidney grille. The nose sits more upright whole the front bumper sports the usual air intakes. In the back, the F52 sedan gets the L-shaped taillights.

Recently, we spoke about BMW’s supercar that never was, the BMW M8. Based on the 8 Series, a luxurious, fast grand tourer, BMW developed the M8, a skunkworks supercar which never went on sale. The M8 was a masterpiece of engineering, with an engine rivaling only the McLaren F1’s S70/2 engine in terms of quality and performance. All BMW fans are saddened by just the mention of the M8, as it reminds them of a wonderful machine that the world will never get to see. However, if you are upset over the lack of development of the M8, and would like to buy something similar, I think I can provide an example of something that will suffice. It may not be an M8, but it’s the closest thing to it. An ALPINA B12 5.0 Coupe.
Developed in 1990, the B12 was an ALPINA tuned version of the E31 8 Series BMW. Using the 5.0 liter V12 found in the 850i, the B12 was tuned to make 350 hp and hit 60 mph in 6.8 seconds. Though the real time is probably lower, considering the German’s penchant for underrating their vehicles. ALPINA also did its usual tuning to the suspension and brakes, as well as fitting those classic ALPINA wheels as well as the usual color scheme.
This particular model is a 1991 model year and Japanese Spec. It was imported to the U.S. and is legal. It’s in Diamond Schwarz Metallic, wearing Schwarz Nappa leather interior with the usual ALPINA colored stitching. This model also has a 5-Speed automatic and wood grain trim. The 8 Series was always an excellent looking car, but this ALPINA B12 really sends the looks over the top. Those ALPINA wheels are a thing of beauty on the B12 and I love the subtle gold graphics down the sides and slightly tinted marker lights. This B12 is a particularly menacing looking thing, with that long hood and downward sloping nose.
Did I mention that this B12 only has 28,000 original miles on it? That’s good for a two year old car, nonetheless a 24 year old one. It’s barely been broken in at this point. Admittedly the price is a bit steep at $75,000, but it’s well worth it to someone who can afford it as this B12 is a rare thing of beauty. It may not be an M8, but it seems like it could be the closest thing we’ll ever see. Aside from the ALPINA B12 5.7, that is. But good luck finding one of those.

In light of recent claims by Cadillac Boss, Johan De Nysschen, it seems as though many fans of German cars are upset with his comments. Understandably so, as De Nysschen called out the fans specifically, using the term “Germanmobile Fanboys”, which has a bit of an insulting ring to it. Now, personally, I don’t mind a bit of competitive bragging. That’s what makes competition fun. Would it be fun if every football player gave the opponent a pat on the back after being tackled? Probably not, you want to see them jaw at each other through their helmets. However, I think De Nysschen might be regretting these statements if the ATS-V won’t deliver on its promises. The ATS-V will be fast, maybe even faster than the M3. There’s no doubt it will be a good performance car. But even if it is faster to 60 mph and can lap the Nurburgring one second faster, will it be nicer to drive? I have a feeling that answer will be no. Yet we won’t know for sure until we drive the car.
I understand many people are excited about the ATS-V and with good reason. It’s a rear-wheel drive, has 464 hp and is available with a manual. That’s all good stuff. But just like the standard ATS, the final product could be a bit underwhelming. This may sound like typical BMW, err I’m sorry, Germanmobile Fanboyism, but the ATS isn’t all that great. Sure, every journalistic magazine will say that the ATS is a far superior product to the 3 Series, but I must objectively disagree.
Before I started writing for BMWBLOG, I reviewed an ATS and was very excited to drive it beforehand. I couldn’t wait to drive the car that so many journalists deemed better than the iconic 3 Series. “If it can beat the 3, it must be awesome!” I thought. Well, the actual product left me wanting…a lot. I stepped out of the car feeling so disappointed, because the ATS felt decent at best. And I drove the 2.0t version with the performance pack, so this was no slouch version either. But even with its turbocharged engine, magnetic suspension and bigger brakes, the whole package was ‘meh’. It failed to excite in any way. It also felt very cheap and chintzy on the inside, with all of its shiny black plastics and glittery door trim.
This is what has me thinking that the ATS-V might not be able to deliver on the De Nysschen’s promises. The product in which its based, while competent, failed to excite someone who was initially excited to drive it. I also had the chance to take a look at it in the flesh and take a seat in it at the NYIAS. I must admit, I yawned. On the exterior, it’s just all scoops and fins and diffusers. It’s a mess of a design. It looks like someone took the standard ATS, admittedly a good looking car, and stuck a bunch of Pep Boys aftermarket aero bits on it. The interior was equally as bland, being all black leather and alcantara. It still felt cheap as well, with no materials feeling premium enough to be fitted to a $60,000 car. Now, obviously I do not know how the ATS-V will drive, how fast it will be or how well it will perform. Only time will tell, and I’m excited to see what the final product can do and how it will compete with the M3. The article Can the Cadillac ATS-V put a dent in the M3? appeared first on BMW BLOG

Getting the perfect aftermarket touch on the classy-looking BMW 5 Series is an interesting challenge for all tuning shops around the world. Designed to be the perfect sporty sedan, the 5 Series has attractive curves and design lines that if tampered with, take away from its beauty. But Vorsteiner tuning shop seem to have found the right balance. This BMW 5 Series has been adorned with a set of Vorsteiner aero parts and a set of Vorsteiner wheels. The car gets a carbon fiber front spoiler and a rear diffuser, adding to the sportiness of the car. The added Vorsteiner V-FF 102 wheels, with the Carbon Graphite finish, fit perfectly with the Alpine White exterior color.
To this date, the F10 5 Series is BMW’s highest sold 5 Series and the expectations are that the next generation G30, due out next year, will continue down the same path. This photoshoot was done by Trevor Thompson from ActiFilms.TV.

Autobild’s latest issue brings back the old rumor of a BMW M7 being planned for the near future. The Germany magazine says an M model based on the new 7 Series will be unveiled in 2016 to compete with the likes of Audi S8 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class AMG. In terms of performance, the rumored BMW M7 is said to deliver over 600 horsepower, but it’s unknown whether BMW will use their V12 or the V8 engine found in the M5 and M6. The design will be based on new G11/G12 7 Series with large air intakes in the front apron, side skirts, a rear diffuser and exhaust system from the M5 and M6 Gran Coupe.
BMW 7 Series rendered Over the last few years, our sources say that the outgoing BMW CEO Dr. Norbert Reithofer has a been opposing the idea of an M7, yet if the car arrives next year under the new CEO, the M7 would still be considered his creation. With the demand for high-end luxury vehicles being on the up-rise, the costly M7 could arrive at the right time for the Bavarians. Related: Is ALPINA B7 substituting a potential BMW M7? German magazine Autobild is reporting on once again on the previously rumored BMW M100. Built to celebrate BMW’s 100th Anniversary, the M100 is said to be based on the BMW i8 and to arrive next year. This is likely to be the highly-rumored BMW i8S which was mentioned in the last few months. The report says the M100 will be visually different from the i8, despite being based on the hybrid sports car, and will feature a more dynamic design and it will be sportier on the road. The suspension kinematics have been also redesigned and aggressively tuned springs and dampers were engineered for a much tighter ride. The much wider tires improve grip and traction, while the correspondingly larger brake add more bite and stopping power.
Under the hood, the i8S / M100 is rumored to deliver over 500 hp and 700 Newton meters (516 lb-ft) of torque. Instead of the three-cylinder petrol engine, a four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0 liter engine will be used in combination with two electric motors. BMW uses a new automatic transmission with eight stages from Aisin. The top speed is limited to 250 km/h and the acceleration to 100 km/h comes in 3.5 seconds. BMW will only build 100 units of the i8S and it will debut in March 2016. The first cars will be delivered to customers in September 2017. The price is said to be well beyond 250,000 euros. A Naples-resident was arrested for DUI after crashing her car into a parked vehicle. The 49-year old Florida resident was driving a BMW when she hit a Mustang parked at a red light. Nothing really unusual, until the police footage shows the blond-haired woman in a stripped two-piece attempting to stand on one foot as deputies put her through the paces of sobriety tests. She declined to take a breath test and smelled strongly of alcohol, her arrest report said, according to the station. Her black BMW appeared to be totaled and the other car’s driver was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said. Judging by the the footage released by the police, she was driving an E60 5 Series.
She has been charged with driving under the influence with a minor in the car. She has been released on bail. [Source: NyDailyNews] The article Bikini-wearing, BMW-driving grandma arrested for DUI appeared first on BMW BLOG
